7 Do’s and Dont’s for couples travel

Here`s a few tips we learnt along the way:) Enjoy!

Do try new things

Every city, every place has its own characteristics so don’t hold back. Try something new it doesnt have to be a sky diving or something adventurous , it could be something as small as trying out a local delicacy.  With that being said, if you have always wanted to sky dive or scuba dive (whatever is on your list) do it, because life is short and the best way to live is in the moment. So go for it and make some great memories together!

Do date each other

Holidays are a great time to connect and its a good to remember that. Be sure to take some time out of being tourists and just enjoy each others company. Go for romantic walks, flirt a little , plan a date or two.

Don’t fight

Guilty! Faisal and I will be the first to tell you that we argue and fight but over time we have learnt that its not worth it to hold grudges especially while on holiday. So my advice to travelling couples, especially when you are together 24/7 for weeks at a time is to be able to forgive and make up easily. Don’t let one argument ruin your whole trip that you have worked so hard to take.

Don’t try to see everything

Take the time to sit back and enjoy the moments together. Its easy to get caught up in the excitement of going here and doing this and that. This is a  very common mistake that we all make. I get it, you are in a new country/city and of course you want to try and check as many spots off your list however its best to know if you have 10 hotspots on your list, most likely you will only end up seeing 7 and that’s okay! Because at the end of the day you don’t want to spend all your time running around from one spot to another. So deny the urge to fill every hour with must do activities and take the time to relax and bond with your partner as well.

Do be flexible, not selfish

On our last vacation together, I will be the first to admit that I was being a bit selfish. I got mad at Faisal for something very small… he was playing volleyball in the pool and ended up playing for a little longer than I’d want him to. So I got really upset at him but then he said something to me which hit me really hard. He said ‘hey its my vacation too, not just yours.’ That really made me realize that okay there are certain things I want us to do on our trip and playing volleyball might not mean something to me but it does to him. He enjoys doing and he should be able to do what he wants without any time constraints. Just because he played for 30 mins or an hour longer than I expected , whats the big deal? I am not his boss,  hes on vacation why should I hold him back? So be flexible and compromise a little because you both may have different interests at times and that’s okay. Its okay to spend a little time apart and indulge in activities that you enjoy independently and the best part is that when you next see one another, you’ll feel refreshed and excited to spend time together again.. So I decided next time Faisal is playing sports, I will just read my favorite book or even take a nap:)

Dont put yourself in stressful situations

This means avoid last minute packing, arriving at the airport early, planning ahead. These might seem like basic things but when not done, you will find your self frustrated. Say you packed last minute and when you got to your destination you realized you forgot your favorite pair of sunglasses or swimsuit.. naturally you will be a bit bummed out so you may end up pointing fingers at one another and that’s no way to start off your holiday. OR Say you guys didn’t leave early enough for the airport, now you are running late, both on edge and screaming at each other to hurry up so you don’t miss the flight. These are some examples of stressful situations we can avoid because its best start your holiday off on a positive note and enjoy the journey.

Don’t spend your holiday on your cell phones

Unfortunately the era we live in we are almost all addicted to our phones. If you cant apply this to daily life at least apply it on your holiday. Put the phone down and look up. Don’t miss precious moments with your significant other by constantly checking your phone. Your phone calls , emails and texts can all wait. Unplug and enjoy some time off. Same goes with taking pictures, sometimes we can get carried away with taking pictures of every single thing while on vacation that we forget to really enjoy the surroundings, so maybe stop after the 10 selfies:P
